Have you ever wanted something more? Something that engaged your faith by challenging you to serve others? Then congrats, you've FOUND IT!
We are...
Student-Led
MOTOR CITY CAMPUS MINISTRY is a collection of students mobilizing around their passions, skills, faith communities and social networks to create goodness in the world. We are rooted in Detroit: its history, challenges and opportunities. We explore how churches and other communities have responded to Detroit’s needs and how Detroit has stepped up to help the world. We meet local leaders that help students better understand homelessness, poverty, anti-racism and equity, healthy food access and more.
Service-Based
In the "conspiracies" part of the Motor City Campus Ministry experience, students put what they've learned into action. Each student receives $100 to start a project that creates goodness in the world. Along the way students develop strategies to multiply their resources to make an even larger impact. These projects serve the city, the campus, and beyond.
& Church-Supported
MOTOR CITY CAMPUS MINISTRY is a “Wesley Foundation” which follows in the heritage of John Wesley who founded the Methodist movement in the 18th Century on the campus of Christ Church, Oxford. That student club “took food to poor families, visited lonely people in prison, and taught orphans how to read.”* We are the inheritors of an 80+ year tradition of campus ministry in Detroit that started with the founding of the Wayne University Wesley Foundation in 1942. Now we are sponsored by the Young Leaders Initiative, a United Methodist related non-profit providing opportunities for young people to serve their community while growing in their faith. Partner churches provide sustainable support and make it possible for 100% of project donations to be used for students’ impact in the world. All students are invited, but never required, to participate in spiritual growth and practices grounded in our progressive Wesleyan theological heritage.
MOTOR CITY CAMPUS MINISTRY is led by students at Wayne State University and other local schools, along with young adults and ministry staff from area churches. Carl Gladstone serves as Motor City Campus Ministry Director.
